Lubricating the X4

Postby gronendael » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:41 am

In the instructions it says "Oil based lubricants or cleaners are not recommended."

The compression on my device is really sticky and rough. As I try to let it decompress, it actually gets stuck sometimes and I have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to fully decompress. And when I am adding tension, it won't compress because it gets stuck....so I'm adding more and more tension but it doesn't compress to show how much tension I'm adding...this could be bad.

What do you guys recommend using to lubricate the springs and mechanism to allow for smooth compression?

I've used 3 in 1 oil, no problems seen in using that. Your choice. Could try wd-40.

Always leery of liquid oils - they tend to attract dirt. I use very small amounts of graphite but only within the spring chamber. You must blow away excess otherwise you might be lubricating your penis with it (not dangerous). I've only had to do it once and the action is very smooth.

I appreciate the tips guys. I figured out what my major problem was...I had it twisted slightly. Like, if you hold either end of the device and twist it just slightly in opposite directions. The mechanism then scrapes a little. A little twist and suddenly the thing was sliding smoothly. I will still try out the graphite idea though. I hit it with a little WD40 before I figured out it was just a little twisted. If I run into any issues in the future, I'll definitely refer to this. Thanks!

I take mine apart and clean the springs and inside of the tension bars with Q-tips. I then every so lightly coat a Q-tip with cooking oil to put a thin layer on the springs and inside of the tension tubes. I put it together and wipe down the outsides.

When compressing them after this process it is unbelievably smooth, no catching, no snagging part way down, its like 1600 grams being compressed with air =)

Hey guys, thanks for this post. I had been wondering the same question for the longest time. The untwisting and cleaning with the q-tips were both excellent ideas. I tried and it really made a difference. Thanks

Don't fret, this problem is not new, it has been around for a long time. See the thread April 2007 - "Oil Now Slipping!', link:

Oil based lubricants will attract dust and dirt. I guess if you clean it regularly it shouldn't be a problem. I have better luck with graphite as someone mentioned above. FWIW you should use graphite lube in key holes as well - not oil.

one other benefit of graphite is that it doesn't have any odor.

I had the same problem... I just put a little gun oil on the rods and it was good to go. Make sure the wash the comfort strap when you are done though

It is also important to adjust both rods evenly as this too can cause binding of the threads and gives you the impression that lubrication is needed where it is not.So check that the rods are even before attemting to lubricate.

i would not recommend that you lubricate the springs... because stuff like w40 can actually damage your skin if it touches
